Expectations
for

Teachers

K-5: Be highly organized in everything you do (Hentea et al., 2003). Plan ahead to avoid challenges or problems. Post strategies to help parents and students with technology troubleshooting.  There should be regularly scheduled live meetings, encouraging collaboration, interaction, and lesson engagement. The gradebook should be updated weekly to keep parents updated on their child's progress. Teachers are required to send out regular newsletters, whether weekly or monthly, with current standards being taught, projects and bigger assignments upcoming, as well as a reminder of how to communicate with the instructor. Teachers are required to engage in at least one communication with each parent each semester, whether this is a live video conference, a phone call, a parent event, or other live communication.

6-8: A syllabus should be created before the class starts with vital course information, including communication preferences, how to find help, how often assignments are due, and expectations for engagement. A regularly scheduled live meeting should occur to encourage interaction, collaboration, and to give instruction. Provide a time and link to online office hours so students can find you to receive help. The gradebook should be updated weekly, with at least one grade each week reflective of the learning completed. Each graded assignment should include helpful and valid feedback for the students that can be used to improve work, submit higher-quality work in the future, or provide explanations for the grade. Rubrics should be used for all projects and activities to provide clarification for students. Plan ahead and ensure all students can access all materials, assignments, calendars, and tools required to complete tasks.

9-12: A syllabus should be created and shared with students and parents with vital course information, including communication preferences, finding help or tutoring, how often assignments are due, rubrics, and expectations for engagement throughout the course. A regularly scheduled live meeting should occur for all students to encourage collaboration and interaction. All graded assignments should be returned to students with valid and helpful feedback as appropriate for the project. The gradebook is expected to be updated weekly, with at least one grade per student per subject each week. Rubrics should be provided for all students at the beginning of the course to provide students with the information needed to succeed in the course. Regular online office hours are required, with at least one hour per weekday, over at least two days during the week.
